My sister just asked me this, do they need to mate only once. Are not the eggs capable of turning into chicks, if the hen sit on them for a set period. Not sure does anyone know?

Do roosters mate with the hens once or do they have to fertilize each set of eggs.

They can lay eggs without a rooster but they must be fertilized by him in order to hatch.

They mate once, the hen lays eggs. The hen then sits on the eggs. If the hen wants to lay more eggs a few weeks later, they will copulate again.
